Stainless Steel Processing

Stainless steel can be cut and processed to suit a range of components and project requirements, depending on the grade, thickness, finish and intended use.

Our processing capabilities include:

  • Laser Cutting: Suitable for profiles, holes, cut-outs and detailed components where accuracy and clean edges are important.
  • Pressing & Bending: Stainless steel sheet and plate can be formed for a range of fabrication and engineering applications.
  • Rolling: Available for suitable parts requiring curved or formed sections.
  • Laser Etching & Engraving: Identification, logos, serial numbers and other markings can be added to suitable stainless steel components.

The material grade, thickness, surface finish and end use should all be considered when selecting the most suitable processing method.

Stainless Steel Products

We regularly supply 304 and 316 stainless steel in a range of sheet and plate thicknesses, with finishes available to suit functional, fabrication and architectural requirements.

Common finishes include:

  • 2B Mill Finish: A smooth, low-reflective finish commonly used for general fabrication and industrial components.
  • No.4 Brushed: A directional brushed finish commonly used where appearance is an important consideration.
  • No.8 Polished / Ultra Polish: A highly reflective finish suited to decorative and architectural uses.
  • No.1 Mill Finish: Commonly associated with hot-rolled stainless plate for industrial and fabrication work.

Grade and finish selection will depend on the environment, intended use, appearance and processing requirements.

Stainless Steel Grades Explained

The two most commonly used grades, 304 and 316, offer strength, corrosion resistance and versatility, but each is suited to different environments and end uses. The comparison table below provides a quick reference for common differences, finishes and uses.
